Manuela Montoya (Bogotá, 1984) es cineasta y artista. Estudió Antropología en la Universidad de los Andes y se graduó de la Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV de San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba, en Dirección de Ficción y Documental.

Ha recibido tres estímulos del Fondo para el Desarrollo Cinematográfico de Colombia: Producción de Cortometraje de Ficción (2011), Desarrollo de Proyecto Documental (2012) y Producción de Largometraje Documental (2016).

 

Escribió y dirigió el cortometraje CINCUENTA (2010), exhibido en once países y presentado en festivales como el Festival del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano de La Habana (2012) y el Festival Internacional de Cine de Huelva (2013). En 2013 realizó LAS BROMELIAS, ficción autoficcional en la que actuó junto a su padre y su hermana, seleccionada en festivales como Rencontres de Toulouse (2014), São Paulo Short Film Festival (2014) y Winterthur International Short Film Festival (2016).

Su primer largometraje documental, DE NIRO IS NOT MY DAD, se encuentra actualmente en desarrollo. El proyecto fue seleccionado en el Ópera Prima Lab del Festival Internacional de Cine de Cartagena de Indias 2025, donde recibió mentoría internacional y tres premios en especie: asesoría legal, servicios de postproducción y alquiler de equipos.

Además de su trabajo cinematográfico, Manuela ha desarrollado una práctica artística interdisciplinar en pintura, fotografía, video y pedagogía desde el contexto rural andino, explorando la memoria, la identidad y la relación entre los seres humanos y lo no humano.

Manuela Montoya (Bogotá, 1984) is a filmmaker and artist. She studied Anthropology at Universidad de los Andes and graduated from the Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba, specializing in Fiction and Documentary Directing.

She has received three grants from the Colombian Film Development Fund (FDC): Fiction Short Film Production (2011), Documentary Project Development (2012), and Documentary Feature Film Production (2016).

She wrote and directed the short film CINCUENTA (2010), screened in eleven countries and presented at festivals such as the Havana Film Festival (2012) and the Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival (2013). In 2013, she directed LAS BROMELIAS, an autofiction short in which she performed alongside her father and sister, selected at festivals including Rencontres de Toulouse (2014), São Paulo Short Film Festival (2014), and the Winterthur International Short Film Festival (2016).

Her first feature-length documentary, DE NIRO IS NOT MY DAD, is currently in development. The project was selected for the Ópera Prima Lab at the Cartagena International Film Festival (FICCI) 2025, where it received international mentorship and three in-kind awards: legal consultancy, post-production services, and equipment rental.

Beyond her filmmaking, Manuela has developed an interdisciplinary artistic practice in painting, photography, video, and pedagogy from the rural Andes, exploring memory, identity, and the relationship between humans and the non-human.
